Native American Story Tellers
Fine Clay Sculptures and Figurines
Many long winter nights when snakes slept and one was safe from lightning, Native American children would gather around and listen to an elder tell a story. The stories took the listeners on a journey to the past where memories were preserved for future generations. The story telling sessions began after an evening meal. It might be a story of a long past hunting trip or a tale of the search for a great leader. Though these story times are no longer as frequent, many keep the tradition alive. Each generation saw to it that the oral traditions were passed on virtually unchanged, for numbers of years.
This Native American tradition is kept alive by pottery figurines called "Story Tellers." Each StoryTeller is handmade and individually handcrafted and hand painted in traditional earth colors and designs by artists of the Navajo tribe, Acoma Pueblo, Jemez Pueblo, and Zuni Pueblo.
The tradition is that StoryTellers will bring good luck to the home or person it is placed with.
Made in New Mexico.
